A DEFINITIVE RANKING OF PUBLICLY TRADED BANKS
Every publicly traded bank ranked by all-time total shareholder return.
Have you ever wanted a list that ranks the performance of every single publicly traded bank?
A few times a year, I make a list for myself that does this very thing.
I calculate the all-time total shareholder return for each of the, by my count, 445 banks with publicly traded shares. Then I rank them, from first to four hundred forty-fifth.
Because this metric reflects both dividends paid and share price appreciation through typically one or two full credit cycles, you can think of it as the ultimate arbiter of performance for publicly traded banks.
I ordinarily just release a ranking of the top ten banks, but this time I’ve decided to release the entire list (see below).
It also includes an annualized figure for each bank to normalize for the fact that some have been publicly traded for much longer than others.
In short, if you run a publicly traded bank or are in any way interested in bank stocks, then this is the list for you.
